Working on a commercial is truly a collaboration
I never realized how beautiful Pasadena, California is. Just absolutely beautiful.
I recently visited Pasadena, because I booked a funny commercial for a very big company that I can’t mention cause I signed an NDA, and am not allowed to talk about it. But what I can say, is that I was cast in this commercial with some amazing funny people. Champs in the industry that you’ve seen in other commercials, and they put together a dream team. I’m always extremely grateful for any opportunity, but I can honestly say that this company treated us so well and so kind. They put us in the best hotels, accommodated it us with some awesome food, a relaxed and fun environment. The director was so funny himself, I was surprised that he wasn’t in the commercial.

Working on a commercial is truly a collaboration. It is not something that you do on your own. Everyone is trying to produce the very best, especially when dealing with comedy. There’s no need for overdoing it, trying to prove anything, just know that it is a process. Some jokes will be funny, some jokes will be okay, and some jokes are just not funny enough to be jokes, and as Jim Carrey use to say when audiences wouldn’t laugh, we’ll call those jokes, art.
Sometimes with comedy, if the material isn’t funny, people beat themselves up. But if you can truly embrace the non-laughter, I bet you, that there is a joke in there somewhere. You just have to keep digging for the gold. Can I say that everything I did was drop dead hilarious, no. But what I can say, is that I never let that get to me. Instead, I embraced it and moved on. It’s truly the best. Cause then you quickly realize that it does make you stronger.
For those of you who do commercials, have fun. Truly. It’s a great opportunity. For those of you who have not worked on commercials, your time is coming, and when it does, show up with confidence and show the world what you can do. Don’t do it for them, do it for yourself.
