Intermediate Acting Classes
Our intermediate acting classes in NYC offers a great continuation from our Beginner Acting Class. Students will learn technique through a process of developing original monologues, scenes, commercial copy (auditioning material for commercials) and performing them in class. Some of the material created will also be used to teach students how to audition on-camera for TV, Film and Commercials. This process is not only extremely helpful when it comes to learning how to take clear action, breakdown a scene, create a character, audition, but it is also a great practice when it comes to building confidence and strengthening your voice.
We encourage our students to be fearless. Acting is all about confidence. When the walls of insecurity come down, the students allow room for creativity and the transformation into different characters for the stage, film and TV. At the end of our 8-week course, students will participate in a showcase where they will have the opportunity to share what they have learned in class.
Our Philosophy at the Victor Cruz Acting Studio is to encourage students to be fearless and to be the very best within themselves. Our environments are warm and positive and do not believe in instilling fear to get the best results. Instead, we share the tools necessary to excel in the craft of acting with clarity and confidence.
8 Week Intermediate Acting Course
Our curriculum for our 8-week course covers building confidence, writing original monologues, scenes, commercial copy, performing them and learning how to audition for TV, Film, and Commercials. At the end of the 8-week course, students will participate in a showcase where they have the opportunity to share original works from class.
Weeks 1 – 2
WRITE AN ON-CAMERA AUDITION PIECE.We will kick off this course with an icebreaker that involves improvising stories and acting them out. Students will then be given prompts to create their first original monologue. During the first class, students will get a chance to read them and audition with them in front of a camera. During our 2nd class, students will have a week with the material and now they will return for a mock callback audition.
Notes will be shared, and a new prompt will be given to students to create a new monologue that will be used as on-camera audition piece. During these first two weeks, students will learn how to audition for film & television and learn how to leave a long-lasting impression with casting directors.
Weeks 3 – 4
LEARN TO CREATE YOUR OWN SCENE.We will take the 2nd monologue created during Weeks 1-2 and learn how to turn that monologue into a scene. The students will create the scene in class and partner up with another student. Students will return Week 4 with the scene rehearsed and prepared.
LEARN HOW TO AUDITION FOR COMMERCIALS.Students will learn how to create their very own on-camera commercial script. Once created, they will learn how to audition for commercials and learn how to leave a long-lasting impression with casting directors.
THE BUSINESS OF ACTING.Students will be visited by someone from the industry who will share their story and take them through the business of acting. This visit will include a Q&A for students.
Weeks 7 – 8
REHEARSALS & SHOWCASE.Students will be guided and encouraged to pick original material that features them at their best, during our end of the course showcase. During this presentation, students will present original works that they created in class. In the process, they will learn what it’s like to prepare for a showcase and acquire great habits during the rehearsal process.
